Gordon Onslow Ford & Roberto Matta La Dynamique intérieure, la sincère amitié

Exhibition

Galerie Diane de Polignac, Paris

October 16 – November 29, 2025

The artists Gordon Onslow Ford (1912-2003) and Roberto Matta (1911-2002) met in Paris in 1937. It was the beginning of a deep friendship that lasted 65 years. Throughout this relationship, the two friends exchanged letters illustrated with many drawings. In October 2025, a selection of these exclusive documents will be published by Diane de Polignac Gallery. The exhibition, organized to accompany this publication, explores this friendship of a lifetime through seven works by Gordon Onslow Ford and seven works by Roberto Matta, dating from 1937 to the 1990s.

Diane de Polignac Gallery is working with Fariba Bogzaran, close friend and collaborator of Gordon Onslow Ford; Ramuntcho Matta, son of Roberto Matta; and the Lucid Art Foundation.

Roberto Matta Manifeste et Vous

Exposition

Galerie Diane de Polignac, Paris

March 21 – April 27, 2024

To celebrate the centenary of the first manifesto of surrealism, Diane de Polignac Gallery organizes the exhibition Manifeste et vous dedicated to the Chilean surrealist painter Roberto Matta (1911-2002).

This exhibition brings together seven never seen before masterpieces created in the last years of his amazing life. These compositions in ink and acrylic on canvas strike by their dynamism. Roberto Matta proposes maps of mental territories to better equip us to go through the 21st century. These bold large formats perfectly illustrate the free spirit of this great 80 years old artist, at the top of his art.

A publication accompanies the exhibition, bringing together unpublished texts inspired by the artworks, a way of exploring the creative process. The authors were invited by Ramuntcho Matta, son of the artist and curator of this exhibition. The authors are artists, writers, musicians, historians, journalists… They are Thomas Baumgartner, Pablo Cueco, Anaïd Demir, Anne Egger, Réjane d’Espirac, Aurélien Masson and Ramuntcho Matta.

In addition, an essay by Fariba Bogzaran highlights the importance of friendship in the surrealist process by insisting on Roberto Matta’s relationship with Gordon Onslow Ford, without whom Roberto Matta would never have become a painter. A friendship of a lifetime animated by an exemplary creative reciprocity.
